Oil Leak 170 More oil spilled….

Interesting article in last weeks Guardian revealing oil spilled from a rig in Australia’s Bass Strait.

Particularly depressing as the rig is operated by an affiliate of Exxon Mobil (remember the Exxon Valdez). Supposedly only 774 litres which is about the same size as the worst STS incident in the UK  – well if you believe that 4 hoses each containing a tonnes of oil could only loose 700 odd litres when the ships separated “without warning”.

When one of the most highly regulated industries in the world can’t clean up their act what hope is there for STS being undertaken at sea in the Moray Firth by a Port Authority that has never actually undertaken an oil transfer themselves trying to communicate with flag of convenience oil tankers that may not have a single language in common. Good idea?
