The Scottish Government still deny that they were consulted on STS despite clear documentary evidence being presented in Oil Leak 126. However look at the statement:

“These documents do not support the claims which have been made, The Scottish Government was not consulted by the Secretary of State for Transport in relation to Port of Cromarty Firth’s original application.

“However, we expect to be invited to respond to a revised application. Our response to the UK Government will reflect the strong views expressed by local communities. On the basis of the current information, Ministers remain unconvinced that ship to ship transfers should take place.”

Yet more clever words trying to avoid the actual question – of course the Scottish Government was not consulted by the Secretary of State for Transport (SoST). why would they be – the SoST didn’t consult anyone else on this matter. It was Intertek that carried out the consultation on behalf of the CFPA. Sometime you wish that government officials would just answer the question put before them instead of always trying to put their own spin on it (the question they were asked was “were they consulted”). We could go round in circles for a long time on this one. The good news which we find really encouraging is that the Scottish Government response will reflect the “strong views expressed by local communities.” That is new, that is positive, we welcome this.
